The Jordan Brand was born in 1985 when Nike signed young Michael Jordan: Intended initially to just have Jordan playing in Nike shoes, the public demand for the uber-popular player’s shoes got so big that Nike ended up releasing the sneakers for everyone eventually. The enormous hype around their first signature shoe model, the Air Jordan I, was followed by more innovative silhouettes as the Air Jordan III or Air Jordan XI and the rest is history (including changing the Swoosh for the Jumpman logo):
The brand became big on and off the basketball court and had a huge influence on the emerging streetwear culture of the 80s and 90s and – thanks to constant innovation and progress led by legendary designer Tinker Hatfield – the Jordan empire continued to grow.
