AIR JORDAN I MEANT TO FLY

When Michael Jordan entered the NBA, he mesmerized basketball fans not only with his supreme talent but also with his seemingly uncanny leaping ability. An early Air Jordan TV ad played off of Jordan’s captivating aerial acrobatics. The commercial, showing Jordan effortlessly floating through the air, accompanied by jet engine noises, striking the infamous jumpman post in the process, is about the most mid/late 80s thing imaginable.

During the clip Jordan (wearing the infamous black and red colorway of the Air Jordan I) mischievously asks “Who said man was not meant to fly?” This year’s retro iteration of the AJI pays homage to this very question with its black and red double-layered construction on a tumbled leather upper. Occasionally dubbed the ‘Bloodlines’ colorway as well, the shoe distinctly features young MJ’s query printed on the insoles of the shoe.

The Air Jordan I ‘Meant To Fly’ releases at the BSTN online shop on Friday, November 29th!
