Patta was founded in 2004 "out of love and necessity rather than profit and novelty" by Edson Sabajo and Guillaume 'Gee' Schmidt. Their goal was to supply their friends and themselves with sneakers, apparel and records from all over the world; stemming from the Dutch hip-hop scene themselves. Patta quickly made a name for itself in Amsterdam’s fashion scene and their first own products and collaborations followed soon.
Before they knew it, the demand started growing, and a cult favorite brand was born. Today Patta is one of few internationally revered, black-owned streetwear brands and the design team still loves to refer back to the label’s hip-hop background with graphics referencing rap tracks, paying homage to icons of the scene like for example MC Eiht. Patta is not only a brand that sells and creates its own hugely popular clothing and accessories, but a creative hub as well that specializes in collaborations with the likes of Nike, Vans and others.
Meanwhile, Patta's assortment is well stocked from hoodies, t-shirts, pants and jackets to an accessory section. And where does the unknown name of the brand come from? It’s named after a slang term for ‘shoe’ – a nod to the founders’ Surinamese heritage.
