Unquestionably ranking among the most popular Air Jordan silhouettes (and sneakers in general, for that matter), the AJIII marked a number of significant ‘firsts’ for the most iconic line of signature basketball shoes of all time. For starters, it was the line’s first model created by legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield and, as a consequence thereof, the first Jordan to feature an exposed Air bubble as part of its heel cushioning system (a TH staple). In addition, it was the first model to bring animal patterns to the Air Jordan line by introducing the now infamous elephant print.
And to put it mildly, this year’s Air Jordan III SE release, fittingly dubbed ‘Animal Instinct’, is taking the concept to a whole other level. The three’s upper features faux-fur galore with patterns from zebra and tiger stripes, to leopard spots, to the smooth velvet of a black panther. To make the color way pop even more than it already does, a gum outsole makes a rare appearance on this Air Jordan III as well.
