ALL SAMPLES CLEARED

Check BSTN Chronicles to read how Madlib and Mark Ronson recorded a whole EP with nothing but sounds from a recycling factory!

While the comparison between sampling – that’s taking a piece of something and flipping it into a new (musical) context – and recycling has been drawn before, Madlib and Mark Ronson have just taken it one step further. The two producers recorded an entire EP consisting solely of sounds taken from a bottle-to-bottle recycling factory.

The ambitious seven-track-spanning project was introduced by a short film, narrated by none other than rap veteran MC Lyte:

The project is part of Coca-Cola’s interactive ‘Recycled Records’ music campaign which comes in the wake of transitioning Sprite and other brands from green to clear packaging to increase the volume of recycled plastic that can be reused more than once. ‘Recycled Records’ also features an interactive beat meachine to create your own instrumentals with the sounds of recycling.

One question remains though: Can someone blend one of those bottle-popping beats with the classic Sprite rap by Nas and AZ now, please?
