ASICS and Issey Miyake Foot step into shared territory with Hyper Taping, translating a long-standing fashion philosophy into footwear form: Overseen jointly by ASICS and the Miyake Design Studio, the project marks Miyake’s first-ever sneaker, rooted in the idea of reexamining the human body – and more specifically, the foot – as a starting point for design.
The taping-inspired concept comes through elastic bands that wrap the foot in a bold, continuous line, supported by cushioned tongue wings and refined ankle padding for a secure, dialed-in fit. Built on a reworked ASICS wrestling outsole that extends into the upper, the Hyper Taping delivers grip and stability inspired by the structure of a gecko’s foot, blending performance with visual edge. A newly developed last opens up the originally tight wrestling shape for everyday wear, paired with a FLYTEFOAM PROPEL insole and soft Ortholite sockliner to keep comfort front and center.
