While many people will recognize the name of Awake NY’s founder Angelo Baque from his tremendously successful stint as the Brand Director for Supreme. However, his own label that he founded in 2012 has quickly made a name in its own right after not releasing a full collection until 2017 (the brand actually started off with a series of hats before launching various other pieces and collaborations).
Since then, Awake NY has only grown in popularity in the streetwear scene, winning critical acclaim for its unique (multi-)cultural spirit as well as a list of collaboration partners that includes ASICS, Reebok, and Moncler among others. Baque’s growing up in New York as well as his crossings of path with various renowned figures of the streetwear industry are great influences in his collection. Awake NY aims to capture the ‘changing aesthetic vibrancy and timelessness of New York’ as well as the city’s multitude of cultural landscapes.
