The Jordan Air Ship is widely known for being the one before the one, the shoe that Michael Jordan wore before launching his iconic line of signature basketball shoes in collaboration with Nike. Fittingly, the latest release of the Air Ship pays homage to a key item from the early years of Jordan’s illustrious career … but not the one most people would think of right away.
While the color blocking and heel embroidery – especially on the Carolina blue pair – is reminiscent of a recent friends & family edition of the Air Ship, only available to BMX rider extraordinaire Nygel Sylvester and a chosen few, this version actually pays homage to
another the very first member of the Jumpman squad.
The ‘Every Game’ embroidery on the back of the shoes hints at the pair of compression shorts that Michael Jordan notoriously wore underneath his Chicago Bulls shorts. Since that particular pair had served him well as a North Carolina Tar Heel, he continued the tradition when he made the jump to the NBA … and continued it for years to come.
