REACHING FOR THE STARS

Labeled as a proverbial alien before his rookie season in the NBA, Victor Wembanyama just unlocked another level: Alien Dunk. The upcoming animated series starring the San Antonio Spurs’ very own extraterrestrial is set to hit screens as a joint venture with French network TF1 and PGS Entertainment. The show flips Wemby into a teenage version of himself who finds out he’s from another planet (teenage days in a nutshell?) where hooping is strictly forbidden. And – obviously – he also has to save his home world while navigating his way into the NBA.

Even though the first Alien Dunk trailer somehow dropped on mute, that only gives us more room to take a minute and dream: Which other NBA players with out-of-this-world skill sets deserve a cameo in Wemby’s cosmic adventures? Here’s the Top 3 on our wish list:

Nikola Jokić as: The Joker

The Joker is a no-brainer choice for a cameo as the final boss of the show, not just because of his very suitable nickname. A proven winner and multi-time MVP, Jokić arguably holds the title as the best player on the planet (this planet, at least). The 10-year vet occupies the spot that IRL Wemby strives to get to: The pinnacle. A mountain top battle of epic proportions for the ultimate belt – a scene that sets itself, just outside of Denver, CO.

Kawhi Leonard as: Boardman

The perfect antagonist for the young rising star, Boardman brings a powerful skill set and endless rescources to the table – as well as a dark secret. Backed by the wealth of a highly emotional billionaire with more money than restraint and a passionate dislike for rules and regulations, the only thing able to stop Boardman is his tendency to get injured on the job. (Too soon?)

Chet Holmgren as: Stretch Armstrong

Drafted a year ahead of Wemby (and after an injury-related delay to his pro debut), Chet’s NBA career has run parallel to Vic’s beyond their concurrent rookie campaigns. Blessed with a unique skill set of his own and a similarly alienesque build, Holmgren has caught up on major trophies this summer (adding an NBA championship ring to Wembanyama’s ROY trophy) to make him a destined rival for years to come.
