STYLE GUIDE: FALL & WINTER SHOES

They say ‘Preparation is everything’ – or actually David ‘The Admiral’ Robinson said that and while we don’t try to argue with the Spurs legend anyway, his saying turns out to be true outside the basketball court too:

When weather gets harsh, you better be prepared for an obstacle run of puddles, rain or snow. We know a thing or two about that, so here’s five shoes (plus additionally recommended footwear) that will keep your feet warm and dry through all conditions even in fall and winter.

Norse Projects ‘Zip-Up Runner’

These lightweight runners by Norse Projects are not only waterproof, windproof and highly breathable: Thanks to the Vibram outsole they also guarantee extreme grip, while an OrthoLite insole provides you with long-lasting cushioning. Thanks to the glacier grey colorway, unavoidable small stains or water drops won’t catch your eye immediately, but if, the leather and textile upper are easy to clean too.

The only thing the Zip-Up Runner doesn’t come with, is warm lining. In this case, that’s a good thing though: They’re wearable all-year long, and when temperatures drop, just wear them with warm wool socks and you’re ready to go.

Clarks Originals ‘Wallabee 2.0 GTX’

We bet Ghostface Killa and Raekwon wished for these in New York winters during the 90s: The winterized version of THE footwear choice of the Wu-Tang Clan and Jamaican rudeboys alike gives the comfy Clarks mocassins the all-weather treatment with a cleated Vibram sole for grip, along with webbing tape and GORE-TEX technology for protection against the elements.

Diemme x BSTN Brand ‘Roccia Basso’

If you can’t decide whether to face bad weather with sneakers or with boots, these are perfect for you: The “Roccia Basso” premium hiking boots by Diemme, the Italian boots manufacurer extraordinaire, with BSTN Brand are sneaker-inspired but bring all the qualities you’d want in a boot.

Featuring a durable rubber outsole – in white, as a nod to sneaker culture – and a premium leather upper, each of the Roccia Basso’s three colorways will protect you from the colder seasons while their low-top cut makes them a great footwear choice for everything in between nature strolls and city walks.

Nike ACG ‘Air Zoom Gaiadome Gore-Tex’

No list about outdoor streetwear would be complete without Nike ACG, the Oregon-based brand’s special line that has been supplying outdoor adventurers with ‘All Conditions Gear’ for over 30 years now.

So think of the Air Zoom Gaiadome Gore-Tex as the footwear equivalent to Robocop’s body armor (but with comfy Air Zoom cushioning and great ventilation): Thanks to a waterproof GORE-TEX fabric, any rain or snow will just roll off the boots while your feet are sitting comfortably and stable in an ankle-hugging bootie construction.

Merrell ‘Moab Speed Gore-Tex SE’

The ‘Moab’ model by Merrell is one of the highest selling hiking shoe in the world at 20 million (!) pairs sold. That’s not surprising though if one looks at the brand’s updated model: The ‘Moab Speed’ is super comfortable. It’s light-weight. The white and black version go with every outfit. And on top of that, its Gore-Tex protection protects you from the elements while ensuring breathability.

As if the aforementioned features aren’t striking enough already, the pair also features a reinforced toe cap, plus a midsole with FloatPro foam that supports you on long-distance hikes or walks. And while the shoes are great during spring, fall and winter if worn with warm wool socks, they can also be worn in the summertime if combined with regular socks.

Apart from these five hand-picked models, you can find more all-weather condition shoes at BSTN, including the Diemme ‘Anatra B-Ball’, winterized versions of classic sneaker silhouettes such as the Vans Sk8-HI MTE-2 LX or the Nike ‘Lunar Force 1’, alongside more futuristic models like the Adidas ‘Hyperturf Adventure Gaiter’.
