In a move that can be described as equally surprising and entertaining, King Charles III brought his royal touch to Apple Music with a special one-off show, The King’s Music Room: Featuring a mix of jazz, Beyoncé, Bob Marley, Afrobeats from Davido, and others, the “musical journey that reflects the diversity of the Commonwealth and a personal taste” is hosted by King Charles who also shares anecdotes and reveals “why the songs help form the soundtrack to his life.”
Shame on anybody who suspects a witty PR team behind the playlist, instead of DJ KC King Charles III himself exclusively rummaging through his personal record collection. Yet, there are a few songs that somehow didn’t make the playlist despite obvious reasons: here’s four that we definitely hoped to see in the royal lineup!
Kendrick Lamar – ‘HUMBLE.’
Whether one wants to read the track as a subtle reminder of the difference between the Royal Family’s life and most people’s everyday struggle, is not for to us to judge. But even beyond that, a song about staying grounded never hurt anyone, right?
Sade – ‘Smooth Operator’
Should have made the playlist for that refined, diplomatic touch.
Slick Rick – ‘I Run This’
British-born? Check. Crowned (as the king of storytelling) longer than Charles himself? Check. Putting Slick Rick on a playlist is always a good idea – but with a track called ‘I Run This’, it should have been a no-brainer.
Lion King O.S.T. – ‘I Just Can’t Wait To Be King’
Could – just possibly, with no sources to back it up, but you never know – most likely have been Charles’ alarm sound for decades. We’d assume this qualifies for the King’s playlist.
