When The North Face debuted its proprietary Steep Tech collection in 1991, it changed the game in more ways than one. Designed in collaboration with an athlete ( big mountain ski legend Scot Schmidt ) for the first time, the original 1991 Steep Tech collection stood for high performance fabrics packed with functional features. But it also experienced rapid growth in fandom within the hip hop community on the East coast, especially in New York City.
In 2020 the Steep Tech line returns with a reimagined head to toe look that’s loaded with technical details. Two of the stand-out pieces include the Steep Tech Apogee Jacket and the unisex long sleeve tee in multiple colorways. The collection also brings back the original color scheme made famous on the steep mountains an (re-)introduces it to an urban environment.
