In 1996, streetwear was still in its infancy. Hip-hop heads fed their cassette decks one soon-to-be-classic after another, from ‘The Score’ to Tribe’s “Beats, Rhymes and Life”. And as fate would have it, Union LA founder Chris Gibbs and his future wife Bephie (as in Bephie’s Beauty Supply) first fell in love with each other in Brooklyn. Inspired by their genesis, the power couple’s triple collab with Air Jordan takes us back to that fateful summer now with the ‘Summer of 96’ capsule collection:
The collection features the WMNS Air Jordan I Elevate High, apparel with fitting vintage vibes, as well as the much-anticipated Air Jordan I High ‘Woven’. The latter pair comes constructed in a full premium leather build with woven details which nod to yet another 1996 classic, the Nike Air Footscape, which turned heads with its ‘Woven’ upper in the 2000s. Other details include stitching in Kinetic Green, ‘UN/LA’ signature tag and ‘BBS’ embroidery on the heels. A two-tone aged rubber sole rounds out the exceptional design. The shoe comes with an extra set of laces and special packaging.
