adidas and BSTN continue their collaborative ‘O.G. With A Twist’ series, introducing a contemporary take on the classic Handball Spezial. The second installment of the joint series – a celebration of staples of sneaker culture and a humble tribute to those who helped shape them – features two pairs of the fan-favorite silhouette combining timeless elegance with a distinct European twist.
The accompanying campaign features none other than football royalty Alessandro Del Piero – a certified OG whose love for basketball off the pitch makes him a natural fit for the editorial. The legendary Italian striker stars in chapter two, following the initial ‘O.G. with a Twist’ release that featured fellow football star David Alaba and a collaborative adidas Samba. Matching campaign imagery, shot at the iconic Villa Sassi in Turin, Italy, continues the tribute to Mediterranean culture that influenced the design of the OGWAT series.
The sophomore chapter continues the ‘O.G. With A Twist’ theme by utilizing premium materials on iconic silhouettes, creating subtle yet distinct new takes on the beloved models without altering their core DNA. The collaborative Handball Spezial turns heads with its soft premium leather upper and bespoke curved overlays – a first-time design element made exclusively for this release.
In true OGWAT fashion, the premium materials speak for themselves. Both available colorways – off-white and all-black – intentionally keep things clean and understated. The only splash of color comes in the form of refined blue hues on the custom woven OGWAT tongue label and the matching custom shoe box, nodding to the Mediterranean waters that surround the cultures that inspired this release.
To underline the European heritage spirit, the insole and shoe box feature a unique logo created in collaboration with BSTN family friend Theodoros Giannitsacis. The playful graphic depicts a comic-style gentleman casually spinning a basketball on his finger – a literal twist of adding BSTN’s hoops DNA to the Handball Spezial silhouette.
Additional premium features include a classic gum sole, nubuck mudguard and T-toe overlays, an embossed Trefoil logo on the heel tab, and lateral golden foil BSTN branding. Each pair comes with two sets of custom laces: the off-white pair includes two matching laces, one with branded tips and one with gold aglets. The black pair includes black and off-white branded laces.
