THE JERSEY, REWORKED

Football is coming back, the Bundesliga is about to kick off tonight. And in Munich, that always feels like more than just the start of another season. Last year, we got the chance to co-design FC Bayern’s third kit with adidas – a pretty special moment for a Munich-born brand working with a club that has represented our hometown on a global stage for decades. This time, we wanted to look at that jersey through a different lens.

Enter Diana Al Shammari, aka @thefootballgal. Over the past few years, Diana has turned football shirts into something entirely different. Her hand-embroidered designs have brought new meaning to jerseys that already carry so much history and culture – from the Japan shirt that first put her work on the global map to countless one-of-one pieces, workshops and even her own take on the adidas Predator. Along the way, she has established a distinct creative language around the game and its most recognizable garments.

But Diana’s connection to football runs deeper than the shirts she creates. After fleeing war and growing up abroad, football became a constant in her life – discovered through a TV screen and eventually turning into a passion and creative outlet of her own. That personal perspective is what makes her work so compelling: she doesn’t simply decorate jerseys, she gives them another story to tell.

So we handed her one of ours. The result is a personal take on an FC Bayern jersey that brings together our city, our club and Diana’s creative perspective – adding another layer to a shirt that already means a lot to us.

Football is back. And Diana gave this jersey a new chapter of its own.
