Coming fresh off designing jerseys for the Jamaican national soccer teams, lauded designer Wales Bonner and adidas are back with another football-inspired collab: The adidas Samba in ‘Nubuck’ and ‘Metallic Silver’ colorways, who blend the iconic silhouette with both Bonner’s approach to make designs both simple and complex.
Delivering ‘a distinct notion of cultural luxury that infuses European heritage with an Afro Atlantic spirit’ in all of her own collections, Wales Bonner probably didn’t take long to find a shoe of choice in Herzogenaurach’s archives: Football runs deep in the South London designer’s family, and the Samba has long stood the test of time as arguably the football shoe. From its inception in backyard football games, to England’s Terrace culture embracing it, to its worlwide success within various subcultures and beyond.
While the collaborative Samba ‘Nubuck’ comes with a beige upper complimented by adidas‘ 3-Stripes in embroidery style and an oversized brown tongue, making for a perfectly versatile style, the ‘Metallic Silver’ is here to turn heads: The pair is clad in a silver-colored upper with an unqiue metallic effect. Both pairs are rounded out by co-branded tongue tags, subtle ‘Wales Bonner’ insignia and a classic rubber outsole.
